October, the peak of the autumn

In October, autumn has taken hold of the landscape. Temperatures stay below ten plus degrees Celsius and with the right winds it can fall below zero with the first snow of the year, which is a sign of the approaching winter.

For the reindeer herders, the reindeer are collected for counting and separation. Reindeer that have entered the wrong Sami village area beeing transported back to their areas. The reindeer also receive this year’s vaccine injection to protect against diseases.

The short caviar fishing season is coming to an end

The fishing out in the sea for vendace is completed during the first weeks of October. The unique Kalix caviar is served in fine-dining, a very fine-grained and delicious caviar. The connoisseurs can distinguish between the rum caught early or late in the season, as the rum balls become slightly larger towards the end of the fishing season.
